Here is the final tip in our first series. Give something extra.
It’s simple.
Whatever your customer is paying for. Give one more little thing for free.
Or big thing – whatever you want!
After you finish the service or exchange, give one last little spark of delight.
Are you a restaurant – people LOVE that free mint with their check or the free piece of cake to-go for dessert.
Are you a storefront – pick one less than $5 item and throw it in every other person’s bag, and tell them they’ll love it.
Are you contractor – clean up one thing on the property that was a mess you didn’t create.
Are you a toy company – add stickers or treats for the little ones who will be enjoying your products.
And if you can – go BIG!
Not every time.
But pick one customer a month/quarter/year and give them a huge present or gift.
Something you will forsure lose money on the first time (or will you...).
Are you a car dealer – send the customer a free car detailing 1 year later.
Are you a software company – give your best customer a free upgrade or free licensing for next year.
Are you a childcare center - Send a fancy gift card to a customer for a date night.
If you have 10 customers, choose 1.
If you have 1,000 customers, choose 10.
(also be ready to capture the responses, or make the responses easy to share if the customer consents).
These small little extra’s from mints, to extra clean-up, to free upgrades are part of the glue that keeps customers coming back and can radically spur word of mouth growth.
Look for opportunities to GIVE as much as possible. (See The Go Giver by Bob Burg and JD Mann)
